Das von AMIGA verwendete Coverbild ist bei den &#8222;Originalversionen&#8220; mal auf der Vorderseite mit dem Schriftzug &#8222;Roberta Flack&#8220; und &#8222;Killing Me Softle&#8220;, mal aber auch auf der ersten Innenseite &#8211; dann aber als Foto ohne Schriftzug &#8211; zu finden.<\/p>\n<p>Auf der AMIGA-Version ist als Quellenangabe zum Foto nur &#8222;Atlantic&#8220; angegeben. Vermutlich stammt das Bild vom englischen Fotografen David Redfern (1936 &#8211; 2014).<\/p>\n<p>Das Cover weist noch Besonderheiten auf:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Es scheint nicht aus Pappe, sondern aus dickerem Papier zu bestehen. Statt der \u00fcblichen gut 60g wiegt es nur knapp 50g. Es fasst sich auch &#8222;sehr laprig&#8220; an &#8211; es fehlt &#8222;die gewohnte Steife&#8220;.<\/li>\n<li>Die Schrift ist eine andere als bei AMIGA-Platten \u00fcblichen. Man kann das gut im Vergleichsbild zur Neil Diamond LP sehen (Roberta Flack oben &#8211; Neil Diamond unten).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Covertext<\/h2>\n<p>Die S\u00e4ngerin und Pianistin Roberta Flack wurde am 12. Februar 1937 in Asheville, North Carolina geboren und wuchs in Richmond und Arlington, Virginia auf. Von ihrer Mutter lernte sie Klavier-, vom Vater Orgelspielen.<\/p>\n<p>Zun\u00e4chst konzentrierte sie sich ganz auf eine Karriere als klassische Pianistin. Sie studierte an der Howard University in Washington, avancierte zur musikalischen Assistentin des Rektors und erreichte den Grad eines Bachelor of Arts. Sie inszenierte eine Amateurauff\u00fchrung von Verdis Oper \u201eAida&#8220; und wirkte als Lehrerin in Washington. Nach einem Pop-Musik-Job im Tivoli-Restaurant in Georgetown wandte sie sich 1967 ganz der popul\u00e4ren Musik zu. In \u201eHenry&#8217;s Club&#8220; und anderen Washingtoner Nachtlokalen sang sie, sich selbst am Klavier begleitend, zur Unterhaltung der G\u00e4ste.<\/p>\n<p>Ihre ersten Langspielplatten fanden \u00fcber einen Kreis von Kennern hinaus noch wenig Beachtung. Die erste LP war durch Vermittlung des Jazzpianisten Les McCann zustandegekommen; es folgten \u201eChapter Two&#8220; (1970), \u201eQuiet Fire&#8220; (1971), \u201eRoberta Flack &amp; Donny Hathaway&#8220; (1972). Auf\u00a0ihren Alben, auch auf der mit dieser Ver\u00f6ffentlichung vorgestellten LP \u201eKilling Me Softly&#8220; von 1973 und auf der LP \u201eFeel Like Makin&#8216; Love&#8220; (1975) \u00fcberwiegen Balladen in konventioneller Song-Stilistik, die sie mit Soulfeeling, Jazzphrasierungen und Pop-Elementen zu verbinden wei\u00df. Rhythmisch betonte St\u00fccke wie \u201eCompared To What&#8220; und \u201eReverend Lee&#8220; (beide komponiert von Eugene McDaniels) sind selten. \u00c4hnlich wie Nina Simone entzieht sich Roberta Flack mit ihrer ausgefeilten Songtechnik einer eindeutigen Genrezuordnung. Und doch ist sie in ihren Interpretationen so individuell, da\u00df man sie schon nach wenigen Takten identifizieren kann.
